Can somebody explain the physics and driver error behind this, I don’t have an RWD car but would be interesting to see what experts have to say for future reference, the YouTube comments are usually full of 12 year olds saying the driver should have bought a GTR or E39 M5 instead.

Poor innocent tree.

I mean, too much throttle before straightening the steering, then no talent straight after.

Pause the video at 11 seconds in. He has full opposite lock, and then completely lifts right off the throttle. All the weight transfers to the (large) front tyres, and being a modern car (which has massive lateral stiffness and hence huge yaw authority), the car simply turns hard left, at which point the driver is far behind with their clumsy handwheel inputs, it's already inevitable that thekerb and tree will get intimately involved......

Over reaction to the slide and was too slow winding the steering lock off hence straight to the tree.

With all that power you can generate the slide but you then lift a bit and control the slide with throttle input and a bit of steering - this clip is a good example of idiots in powerful cars getting it all wrong.

I would say too much power for too long, then let off because it went a bit too far, overcorrected/unable to correct and lost it.

In my experience you need to keep your foot full down and ride it out!

I'm no expert, but I would say he gave it too much coming round the corner so the rears lost lateral grip, meaning he oversteered and the rear swung round too much. He then overcorrected and I imagine came off the power at the same time, causing the car to snap the other way in a manner he could not control.

More informed answer on the way I guess!

Turned the traction/stability control off without knowing how to drive without it.

The council red wheel rims were responsible.

Stupid place for the tree to stand. Shouldn't have been in the middle reservation, especially with cars leaving a car show hehe

Dam, it's such a shame when you see nice cars getting wrecked by morons.

Clearly needed a lot more practice and was under the impression the driver aids will have sorted it all for him.

He got over excited and wrapped up in the moment, and he hasn't put enough practice in at his local disused car park.

This ^

Later in the video, it looks like the rear tires are worn, but quality on zoom cant necessarily confirm this.

But, have to say that the C63S does have just over 500BHP and 500Lb/ft torque. While they are pretty forgiving under throttle, they can easily break the rears as the turbo spins up. Match what seems to be a colder day, probably cold tires and a corner - yeah, that thing is going to snap bad.

I find that it can bite hard if you accidentally kick it down. You want to pull away a little quicker than normal and it drops from 3rd to 2nd, instantly puts you at full torque and the rears light up. Easily done and throw a corner into the mix and things can get a little slidey quickly.
