Hi,
Just wondering what optional extras were available for the last gen 5 Series and what year each option was introduced and available to.
Are their any key options to look out for?

Many Thanks,
Levi

You looking at 2010-2013 or 2013-2017?

A few essentials like xenons became standard in 2013 along with DAB and other bits.

Plus you got the Luxury Model added in 2013, which would be my choice used.

I have a 2014 SE with 90k miles on it nearly, it genuinely feels like new and feels far more solid than my mates 2012 with 50k miles on it, and my other mates M-Sport which is 2011 with 70k on it feels positively tired.

Plus the NBT nav with DAB etc. feels a lot more up to date than his system, not sure why as it feels very similar, but there is a fair difference.

Looking at both 2010-13 and 13-17. Just wondering if the newer ones are worth the extra

Oh yes later model defo worth it. I loved my 14 plate F11 had only 40k miles people thought is was a lot newer. Traded it last week for the G30:now that’s a whole lot better

Things like powered bootlids and xenons became standard rather than options as the years went on. I found the majority of pre facelift cars had been spec'd with xenons and they came as part of a package which included cornering lights and auto dipping. On the post facelift xenons came as standard so not many bothered paying for the other options.

Sports seats. (a must have)
I'm going to disagree here.

I have always, and I mean always, had sort seats on my BMWs.

I like the way the front raises high on them. However, I the sport seats on my first F11 I found were a bit too narrow, used to make my bum ache where the bolster would dig in a bit, especially where I kept my wallet in my back pocket.
Then had the F25 X3 and found that even worse, really horrible.

I then picked up an LCI 530d E61 as a stop gap which had the SE memory seats, this was a revelation, super comfy, plenty of tilt and just lovely.
So much so when getting another F11 I went to try an SE out, the seats on that are among the best I have owned, again enough tilt, no bolsters digging in, and I can easily sit in them for 8 hours and still be comfy.

I think the non sport seats are getting better and better, definitely on the 5 series anyway.

I certainly wouldn't write a car off without them.

Really?

I found hardly any came with xenons.
I found loads listed as with xenons in the adverts, but when you checked the build sheet they weren't at all.
I reckon it is because they got projectors and angel eyes as standard that many selling them presumed they were xenons.

Half and half agree, about sports seats. I like the side bolsters (especially the adjustable in-and-out ones), but I think the front extendable support should be softer, it is too hard on the back of the lower thigh. I don’t have problems with my wallet, perhaps it is not that fat, I keep it in my left pocket. To add, with the key, I always keep them in my shirt pocket, if anything happens I can exit quickly.

When did the full digital dash (6WB) become available on the F10/11?

Yes, the majority that I looked at had been spec'd with xenons. I was only looking at 535d and they all seemed to be quite well spec'd. Maybe the more popular models weren't spec'd as often.

Same here, seen quite a few listed with xenons but they weren’t. Even a bmw dealer tried telling me they were on one of their cars, and they weren’t. Another bmw dealer also thought they all came with xenons because they were projector lights. Had to show him how to tell!!
Anyway my msport was upgraded with bigger wheels, rear boot spoiler, xenons, adaptive, electric memory seats, folding mirrors, electric steering wheel adjust, privacy glass, professional media package, paddle shift, ambient lighting. It was pretty well specced hence the reason I bought it.
