Anyone ever heard of this swap being done? Or know any threads on this?

Really just out of interest but I always found it odd Aplina didnt get involved in the coupe?

It was a timing thing. Although some say it was the introduction of Euro 4 regs in Jan 2006 that killed the Roadster S, others suspect the E86 Z4 coupe, introduced in Sept 2006 was the true reason for the lack of Alpina development of the coupe. I'd go with the former.

I'd say the lack of EU4 engines, but also the ALPINA 3.4 engine is based on an S50 block and M52 head, both of which went out of production in the late 90s. If you take apart a late Roadster S, it'll have a 99 VANOS unit in it. Lack of parts, and no ability to stick an N54 worked by ALPINA in the Z4 platform at that time.

Well it's just possible those parts went "out of production" because BMW were planning to release the Z4M, maybe!

They went out of production long before The S54 was introduced. The B3 and B3S still were in production for most of the life of the M3, too.

The single VANOS engine went out of production when the M52TU was phased in. ALPINA are known to buy up a large stock of BMW parts that are going out of production. The last 50 M30 blocks went to ALPINA for use in the B10 BiTurbo.
