The Wilhelm Scream
Discussion
As a life long movie fan, I was surprised that I had not heard of the Wilhelm Scream before now.

This will add a new dimension to every film you watch now. A true 'Easter Egg. Apologies if it was just me who missed it till now.
Enjoy.
WIki quote : The Wilhelm scream is a stock sound effect that has been used in at least 416 films and TV series (as of July 2015), beginning in 1951 for the film Distant Drums. The scream is often used when someone is shot, falls from a great height, or is thrown from an explosion.

For a lomg time Hollywood used the sound of crickets chirping recorded from a relatively local region. This sound effect was used for years, regardless where the film was set, regardless if you got crickets there or not!!
I will add, this is a QI 'fact' so may require corroboration!!
My favourite sound effect gag is from a Billy Crystal film, which one escapes me. He is dressed as a cavalryman, presumably surrounded in the 'wild west'. The stereotypical drums start beating and a character says, 'I dont like the sound of those drums'. Crystal's character replies 'its not our usual drummer.....'

It was very noticable in the film Three men and a little lady, the sequel to Three men and a baby.I will add, this is a QI 'fact' so may require corroboration!!
It's set in the UK and all the night scenes are accompanied by the usual loud, chirping crickets.
One that always gets me.
On an ancient PC I had when I was about 15 there was a game/program where you could create basic animations, dragging crude gifs into a backdrop and then manipulating them to play it back, mine was Spiderman themed but I think there were other inclinations.
When you used the police car animation, it was accompanied by this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FxgVS7bylA
"Liberty 285, Code 6, 105 North Avenue, 52"
Its everywhere from films, TV series and adverts.
My ears prick up when I hear it still and I cant unfocus on it.

What about jungle noises? They seem to be the same no matter what jungle we are supposed to be in and no matter whereabouts in the world it is supposed to be.
Yes, they just wheel out the kookaburra noise for any generic jungle clearing scene, even though it's a native of Australia & New Guinea.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXA0-YAoo9Q
Same with horses whinnying. They're generally pretty quiet animals, so they get the noise overlaid.
The MGM lion is also just footage of it yawning with a growl overlaid.

The most annoying of all is the noise they add for ANY computer use. If that was on a real computer, the first thing you'd do is turn it off.
Just finished watching a video on Doom's sound effects, which show a lot of the common stock effects like explosions, screams and door openings. Most of the monster sounds come from clips of annoyed cats, or camels.

As a child I didn't understand the concept of stock effects, so was always confused as to why a film or tv show was seemingly taking sounds from a video game.
