Electric seven seaters

The upcoming changes to company car tax rates are leading me towards going electric (which is the idea I suppose). Only catch is that I need a seven seater.

The only options I can see are the Tesla Model X and the Nissan e-NV200. Are there any others available in the UK, either on the market or due for launch in the next few months?

You cannot compare the Model X with the Nissan, they are poles apart on both price and range.

The Nissan and the upcoming Merc are van based but depends if that bothers you or not.

What about a hybrid?

You are right that the Nissan and Tesla are completely different in terms of standard and price, and really I want something in between those poles. I suppose that it's a harder type of car for manufacturers to develop as the EV has to cart around the extra two people.

I looked at the Mitsubishi Outlander a while back - the ICE version could seat seven but the PHEV could only seat five as the hybrid system took up extra space.

I'm not aware of any seven seater hybrids?

Lexus now offer the 7 seat RX450h L.

It's not cheap though..

Perhaps MB will release a hybrid version of the new GLB (as there is a hybrid version of the A class on which it's based).
I am also looking for a 7 seater hybrid or EV, but there's nothing that fits the bill yet (reasonably compact family car) for my use.

As a UK car you can buy new, I can only think of the Prius+

There's also the JDM Alphard (or Estima/Previa or Vellfire) hybrid, which I believe is akin to the Prius CVT hybrid system with a larger petrol engine (2.0?)

It's a series hybrid, so the drive is entirely electric (and thus very smooth), but instead of a big battery there's a small one and a petrol engine that acts exclusively as a generator. I rented the similarly powered Note, and it seemed to work well and was very economical.

A lot of options there which I wasn't aware of. The Lexus in particular I hadn't thought of.

However, it looks like hybrids aren't yet an option for the new tax rules:

Any plug-in hybrid capable of travelling for 130 miles or more on battery power and with emissions below 50g/km will also escape the tax – though no PHEV currently on the market has that range.
