Hi,

Would appreciate any advice on what to look out for on the 3.0 v6 diesels fitted to things like the A6/A8 in around 2012, the 245bhp variant

Seen a few things in my budget that don't have any horrors on the MOT history but which have higher-mileage than the average car for that age.

Cheers in advance.

I have exactly the car you mentioned 2012 245bhp A6 avant S line.

Had it 5 years now done 136k and the only thing I would replace it with is another A6 avant preferably a Bitdi this time.

Working out if I want to sell it or just keep it for another 100k, they are hard to find with good spec.

Mine has Bose, pan roofm, leather, heated seats, top spec Nav, 20 inch wheels etc etc I have been looking for a newer one with less miles (30-40k) for about 6 months and cant find one.

Mine has been perfect but had the gearbox let go at 105k, think it was £8k for new box and dual mass fly wheel, car now good for another 100k I suspect

Well let me know if you fancy selling it what price you'd be after... sounds like my kind of car potentially

I don't know if it's useful but I moved out of an A6 BiTdi to the A4 3.0 Tdi because the non-BiTdi A4 was so much smoother to drive. When getting the most out of the BiTdi (and it was very fast) it was hammering through the gears all the time. I can't think of a better car for me so although my dealer is trying to get me into an S4 I think I'll stick with what I have.

A6 felt like a big old barge too.

You must have had a gearbox problem.

The ZF 8 speed box is like a magic carpet for smoothness and gear changes are almost un-noticeable, in Sport with WOT or in D and cruising. The term 'hammering through the gears' just isn't applicable.

Despite what Audi say they need an oil change around 75k miles - they are not sealed for life - extends life of gearbox assuming no issues mechanically
