Audi TT 3.2 engine rebuild
Discussion
Hello all, I’ve got an itch to scratch with a Mk2 3.2 TT.
I like big naturally aspirated engines in small cars over turbo or super chargers. My best car to date was a R171 350 SLK and nothing has worked for me since. I simply love very high speed cruising down to the Alps above any other journey and I never track or thrash B roads anymore.
I’d like find a specialist that will strip and rebuild the 3.2 and ensure impeccable reliability as well as any known improvements. For example I once had a Boxster rebuild with better bearings, cylinder linings, lighter pistons etc. That’s the kind of specialist I’m after for the TT.
Thanks in advance for the hints!

Are you having / expecting any reliability problems? I don't understand what else you would expect to gain from a strip and rebuild that would improve the driving experience. If more power is your goal then cam/porting work would probably yield small improvements but to get significant improvements you would likely compromise low end tractibility.
The more obvious route to big power is forced induction. The potential there is limited by the size of your wallet.

VW/Audi probably did a lot of testing.....and if it's still an original build, unless there are actual problems, just leave it as is and ensure it is maintained by a competent person.Hi all, thanks for your replies. I’m not looking for power gains. I had the Porsche rebuild because it dropped a valve on the motorway and preceded to break the top end completely. The failure was notorious and much like the bearings in Porsche engines, it has since been a rebuild must to IMPROVE the engine, not really to tune it.
With the 3.2, I don’t as yet own it. But I’m close to buying one because they are well priced at the moment and I would be able to afford rebuilding the engine and DSG if it would effectively make the running parts ‘as new’, giving me a very fast Quattro for a very sensible price.
Hence wishing to find a specialist for that engine to see if there are any worthwhile upgrades to complete at the same time.
Thanks all.
