The Yakuza Series
Discussion
I have just recently been introduced to the series (I know, 14 years after it first came out) and it is flippin' bat s
t, amazing.
I had previously seen the games on the shelves but the box art just never appealed to me but having recently received a recommednation to try out Yakuza 0, I thought why not. I'm now hooked and have played Kiwami and am half way through Kiwami 2. The game has a compelling and gritty story that will have you hooked but there is also tonnes of off the wall comedy spliced through it. Not to mention the numerous side quests and mini games scattered throughout the game.
I understand that the series is massive over in Japan but doesn't have much of a following in the West. If you haven't tried it, I would highly recommend you try this out especially as they have now just remade or remarstered the first 5 games.
Anyone else played this series and appreciate this gem of a game?

Nice. I am a bit of a game collector so have bought quite a few yakuza games due to how good reviews and a rep they have.

I hadn't played any and the other week decided I would stream a play through of Yakuza 0 (it was recommended as a good entry point).
Like you say, it has been a really enjoyable experience. The cultural aspects are new and refreshing having not played so many games designed around the Japanese way of life. The cut scenes and character development is good and also some of the crazy stuff is hilarious. There I was as a tough guy ex Yakuza member, teaching a young polite lady the right things to say and do in a bid to help her become a better Dominatrix?!
Crazy. Really enjoying it. I did experience the exceedingly steep difficulty moment when I fought the first lieutenant 1:1. Compared to the other street fights that were easy, this was solid.
So which ones have u played so far?

Have played 0, Kiwami and now half way Kiwami 2. I have bought number 6 and Judgment and will probably sign up to PS Now for a month to get access to number 4 & 5. This means I'll skip number 3 but my understanding is that i won;t miss anything too important from the overall story.
