Ignorant new by here, just bought a 2007 3 series, with a problem with cylinder 2 misfiring. Am being told that probably has Togo direct to bmw as all the obvious stuff like coil pack and spark plugs all been changed with no improvement. Car shudders, and sometimes loses power. My question is would it be viable to purchase an engine and just swap them out? Or what would be a good way to resolve?
Thanks for your help

Depends wether the replacement engine is coming with new injectors or not.
It’d be a shame to fit a new engine with your old injectors, then find you need another new engine, then another, and another....
I’d also check your engine management light works, on ignition/test.

No engine lights on, I did get told it was probably an injector but is it worth splashing money at it to try to fix the problem or would it be worth replacing the engine? I can get a refurbed one for £600
£600? No chance of it being refurbed (depends on your definition I guess) other than the block painted at that price point imho. Then fitting costs on top? Or are you DIY fitting?Being told it's "probably" an injector doesn't sound like much of a skilled mechanics words.
A skilled competent tech will be able to tell you what is wrong rather than guessing.
Upto you though, if you've money to burn throw an engine at it......
If it’s a misfire on cylinder 2, I’m guessing somebody’s read a fault code ?
Surely a new injector is cheaper than a new engine. At least labour wise ?
Somebody else can probably answer this, but I presume the injector can be swapped with another, and see if the fault code follows the injector to it’s new cylinder or not.
Edit.... Talking of which, have you deliberately bought the car with the fault, with the intention of rectifying it ? Or has this developed over a period of time ?

Yes, deliberately brought it very cheap with the fault. I was happy to spend £900 if need be and I would’ve still got a decent deal.
No you wouldn't. You will be chasing misfires for the rest of your life just before the timing chain lets go or the thing seizes. Where did you bring it from btw?
You want to be fixing that for as cheaply as possible before outing it.
