'Stolen' warning on a car check for a cheap car WWYD

So, to be concise, I am looking at buying a little project for very sheddy money. It's nothing particularly special, but I just fancy a snotter for commuting and it gives me an excuse for a bit of spannering,


Anyway, as is practical and sensible, I've run a cheap car check (using mycarcheck). I have a few 'full' checks in credit, but decided I'd just to a £1.99 check.

It came up with this:





What's confusing is it also says...



So two things:
1) They aren't open to be contacted until Monday, whereas I'll potentially be buying this weekend.
2) Nearly 10 years ago I had a similar situation with MyCarCheck where I bought an auction shed to flip (was a mid 90's car), and it also said something like this. When I contacted them, they spoke to an insurer (Norwich Union, from memory) who said "Oh, we paid out on that 10 years ago. We must have forgotten to update the register, we'll do it now".
I ended up losing quite a bit on it because in doing so, they then registered it as a Cat C write-off retrospectively, meaning said car was then worth naff all (as it triggered, at the time, a 10-years-late VIC).



So, what would you do? The car has obviously been MOT'd and driving round for 15 years since the apparent theft, and it isn't actually on V-car it seems, nor are the plod apparently flagging it.

I'm a bit reluctant to chase it in case the above scenario is repeated. Seems a bit weird for that to have been on it for so long, as it would have only been a year or so old at the time (and thus, this current point is when you'd least expect someone to pick up on it!).

For me it would depend what the car is. Something rare and interesting, in a spec I wanted, I’d be tempted. A run of the mill Focus? Yeah there’s fktons (SI unit of measurement) of them about

Check this isn’t to do with a linked cherishes plate. My FN2 Type R was stolen in 2007, never found and insurance pix out. Every car I’ve put my plate on since then comes up with a stolen warning but when you look into it, it’s the fact my personal plate has the mark, not the car. Sadly nobody seems interested in fixing this. Every time I hit a wall

There aren't any recorded plate changes, and it's currently on an age related (so I assume original) plate.

It's neither rare nor common. It's cheap, at near scrap price, and local.

I'd say that if I looked, there'd probably be only a couple for sale within an hour's drive. There are none listed for sale on Autotrader within a 60 mile radius that are under £1700. That's not because they are worth that either, we're talking the type of thing that would sell for under a grand on eBay in running order.

It seems to me like it's some sort of admin error from "back in the day", or else it would surely be write-off/stolen on the check?

If it’s near scrap price then I am surprised you need to ask as you have near to nothing to lose
Also, come on, tell us what it is, no need for cryptic clues.
