E-bay classified ads

What is the expectation here - e-bay say no bidding but to contact the seller.

So does that mean I can make offers through the messaging service or is that breaking the law (e-bay law)?

Can't stand these ads as they flood the site and seem now to have taken the auction ads out almost completely.

In my area my search went from 217 ads to just 15 when I asked e-bay to remove the classified ads

The way I see it with cars, is that the seller has paid a fee to advertise. Whatever happens after won’t earn eBay any more money. It’s like competition to Autotrader.

What he said. It works just like autotrader, Gumtree, PH Classifieds etc etc.

Contact the seller just like you would on the other platforms, arrange a viewing, make an offer, or whatever.

From a personal perspective, I quite like the ebay classified ad option. Seems to reach a decent audience - when I recently advertised my Lexus IS200 I had queries from far and wide - Ireland, Aberdeen and Northampton to name a few (I'm in Norwich). The chap who bought it travelled from Portishead (for a £1000 Lexus...madness).

Before that I sold my Volvo S60 T5 the same way to someone in West London. By contrast I initially gave both cars a go in the auction format and ended up abandoning both auctions due to some bad feedback/malicious turds continually bidding and spoiling the auctions.

I've only ever once bought a car in an eBay auction, managed to get him to end it early for a low ball offer, so the auction didn't even complete. He'd have made more money if he had waited for it to finish.

I've bought quite a few cars from eBay classified ads, and I've sold a few cars through eBay classified ads.
