Man-maths and man-help needed to buy a kit car

Hi all,
Quick introduction: Belgian guy, been buying UK cars for the last 10 years (I have a weak spot for Japanese stuff, there's a lot more on offer in the UK). I've been hankering for something fast for a long time. I like the "race car"-feel, so I prefer light cars. Brexit might make it completely impossible to get something registered here over the next few years, so I've decided to move up the timeline.
The initial idea was to buy something cheap (<4k pounds) and/or old (1992 or older), but preferably both.
Both have to do with the risk of not being able to register the car here and costs of registering the car, even though it should be doable, but better safe than sorry.
So in the past year, I've looked at all sorts of seven clones, passing on most of them because of the age. I recently regretted not buying a car with an mx5 drivetrain (also because of the age), since I am quite familiar with those.
Anyway, skipping to the last week: I found another interesting car. Over my initial budget and not old enough (so even more over budget), but I really like the model, it has a modern engine with injection and to be honest: I think I just fell a bit in love.
Apart from these problems, the car is also located in Aberdeen and the seller is unable to pick me up at Edinburgh airport. The tax is running this month, plane tickets are crazy expensive the next 2 weeks (200 pounds, whereas they normally start at 15 pounds), I'll need to get a fresh MOT to have the best chance of registering the car over here.
I've been looking at many different options, but I can't seem to find a way that won't cost me an arm and a leg. Normally, I fly in, they pick me up at the airport/bring the car over there and I drive home. Total distance from my home is a bit over 800 miles. I am looking for alternatives and/or PH-ers that might be able to give me a lift from Manchester/Edinburgh/Glasgow/Belgium/Dover.

It's been a while since I last took the sleeper train as after a contract change, they priced themselves out of the market. It's an efficient way of travelling in the non productive hours. It's not the quietest or most comfortable, but even if you don't get a bunk, the large seats are comfortable and recline a lot. Sleeper is not on regular train sites - go to www.sleeper.scot

If you can get a cheap flight to Manchester, there is a frequent train service to Crewe station. This is one of the few stops the sleeper train makes. Make sure you get on the right part of the train as it splits into 3 I the wee small hours, so you may end up on the wrong side of Scotland!

You could fly from Amsterdam to Inverness, then get a train, bus, or one-way hire car to Aberdeen. Inverness airport is about 7 miles nearer Aberdeen than the centre of Inverness, so you'd have to check transport links if you needed to catch a train from Inverness or Nairn (the next nearest town towards Aberdeen).
Inverness Airport to Aberdeen is about 170km.
Perhaps the seller would be prepared to meet you somewhere between Inverness and Aberdeen (maybe Elgin or Keith).
