Hi guys a friend of a friend is selling one of these pedal box’s FSR Bluetooth as he’s sold his car, he’s getting rid for a decent price, just wondering if anyone knew any thing about them? Any good? Reliable? How’s it compare to jb4? If I’m honest I never even heard of this thing, thought it was either a full stage 1 ecu and tcu tune or you went jb4

Was hoping to go stage 1 on Black Friday, but for the price I’m considering this in the meantime

Any input appreciated

Thanks

I'd leave well alone, these fancy boxes that fool signals are a waste of time.
Get a proper remap from a reputable company.

My thoughts exactly but for the price it’s very tempting, can they cause prob or upset the car?

Won't cause damage but may put it into limp home mode if it doesn't like the settings.
I ran a dtuk box on a different car for a few weeks, couldn't tell the difference to be honest and sold it on.

Go for a pukka remap, you won't regret it.

The pedal box isn't a remap, it just eliminates the dead travel at the top of the pedal.

VWROC has a load of people using them, both with and without remaps, and I haven't heard a bad word about them.

A pedal box isn't a map or a performance boost (like a tuning box).
It just changes the pedal response, bringing the power in with less foot travel.

Don't see the point myself as they seem extremely expensive for what they do, but they seem to get a lot of support from people who bought them.

Thanks for replies guys! I’m confused had a look on there website and 1 box the FSR one claims 50bhp increase and X amount of extra torque, but as you guys have confirmed and after reading various posts on forums through Google searches seems like it just plays around with the throttle response which i don’t really see the point in either. I’m waiting till Black Friday and will most like go with a Apr stage 1 ecu and tcu, due to having a Apr dealer just 10 mins away. Would I be better off going vrs, nvm or mrc? Seems they do it cheaper and I hear nothing but good things about them. Only prob is none of them are local to me, I’m in west London area if any one has a good recommendation, sorry totally off topic.

I’m getting the pedal box for £100 quid though after the guy paid 450, which is why I showed interest in it

You have a few options, the JB4 is a great bit of kit and allows settings to be tweaked and you can also data log.

APR is reputable software but is a little pricey, do you have the 6 or 7 speed DSG? The reason I ask is the TCU tune is required for stage 1 on the later boxes.

R tech and Unicorn or both reputable tuners and considerably cheaper than APR.

Cheers for input mate, that’s the one I forgot to mention- unicorn lol was bugging me that! I have the mk7 16’ making it a 6 speed dsg. I believe the early build model mk7 2014 didn’t require a tcu tune, the 15 and 16’s did though. And apparently the 7 speed in the mk 7.5 doesn’t require it at all, unless going stage 2 plus. Correct me if I’m wrong this is what I’ve been told by tuners themselves?

It's recommended on all the 6 speed versions, also a word of warning the 2014 turbo's were prone to failure so bear this in mind.

I would try R tech, they are doing the Engine and TCU for £450 and they are very highly regarded in VAG scene.

Cheers for input mate, I was told by a tuner at one the mentioned companies that the earliest model being 2014 was okay and didn’t require a tcu/dsg map? god knows! I’m a member of golf r forum on Facebook, R-tech seems like a hot favourite, and correct it’s £450, which is a bargain imo as I was looking to pay 700 odd x 2 with APR. Apparently 450 includes a haldex sevice and/or cleaning of filters too.

Littco has also been mentioned, anyone know anything about them guys? As it’s a lot closer to home

Cheers

LITTCO are very well known but more so for their Turbo upgrades, to be fair they do offer decent mapping as well.

I had a 2nd hand DTUK FSR+ box (not the pedal box) on my Cupra ST / 6spd DSG.

It went like the absolute clappers but I had no end of problems with the Start / Stop malfunctioning, limp modes and engine warning lights, irrespective of which of the box's settings I used.

Eventually, the car started smoking from both ends once switched off and there was a distinct 'clutch' smell, so I got rid of the box - which didn't cure the smoke so I offloaded the car (maybe the damage was already done...?). Either way, it was an expensive mistake.

In contrast, my experience of other manufacturers like Tdi Tuning and Bluespark is a lot more positive.

Apologies for late reply. Ouch! Hearing nothing but negative reviews on this bit of kit lol I’m all booked up for stage 1 at r-tech next Wednesday smile are you guys 100% sure they are good? Seems so cheap, usually when I skimp on something it ends up biting me on the backside! There half the price of a lot of tuners I don’t get how. They even chuck in free haldex service... made me chuckle I rang them up to book the guys like unfortunately we don’t have any offers on atm so will be full price, I’m like erm okay what’s the damage 375 plus vat, coming to a grand total of £450, I was thinking to myself F my life what a bargain lol can’t imagine what it would be at a discounted rate maybe minus vat I guess. Just seems to good to be true.....
