Green Number plates for EVs
Discussion
So the government are consulting on plans to introduce Green Number Plates for EV's.
The new must have accessory on a school run and a way of shaming non-EVs from the road.

Also a cheap way of enforcing an 'electric vehicles only' zone in city centres.I'm surprised they've not done this before, it is pretty much zero cost to administer once the laws have been passed and it can only help electric car sales.
I read this in the Metro.
It will be fantastic for qualifying cars until the rush for green plates means that numbers overwhelm the bus lanes and they all get taken away.
I also anticipate someone ‘forgetting, they were in the wrong car that morning, so should be let off and nobody reminded them etc..

Not really, since what’s to stop any owner putting one on their car - EV or not? I don’t imagine it will be impossible to source one, much like getting a dodgy MOT is now.
Can literally get one made up now on one of these show plate websites, either fully green or with the green band to replace "euro band"Saleen836 said:
Heard about this on the radio earlier they said it could lead to cheaper parking for EV's, as we all know a parked EV emits a lot less C02 than a parked ICE car
No, a parked EV emits more** CO2 than an ICE when parked...
...because it'll be charging*.
*Emissions not at point of use.

It's a way to tell at a glance whether something is an EV or not... seems sensible if they're going to continue to legislate in favour of EVs in terms of where they can drive, where they can park, etc. I dare say a few people will try it on putting green plates on ICE cars but probably only a vanishingly small number and it wouldn't be particularly hard to police... anyone know if existing ANPR cameras can detect colour?
As above we wouldn't be the first country to do it.
