Hi
The main thing to remember is most of the components such as the wiring loom are either Mk1 or Mk2 Escort so are getting on a bit.
What age is your Jago and what actual problems are you currently having that are giving you the most concern?

One preventative "fix" I do is to get a tupe of Copperslip - the copper based brake grease. Undo all the connectors, clean the metal contacts of any corrosion with WD40, you may have to scrape them etc, then put a small film of coppaslip on the metal before doing up the connector. This prevents fresh corrosion and as it is copper based the grease conducts. Do the same thing in the fusebox. I promise the first thing you will notice is that your headlights are brighter.

You said your car is 1987 but don't forget the wiring loom and other components are the same age as the donor vehicle. My Jago is 1984 but some of the parts are for a 1973 Mk1 Escort.
