Best £1500 sporty shed
Discussion
Hi all
I’m looking for a replacement for my 306 which is due for replacement as it is up to 197k now. Bit soon, I know, but I thought I’d treat myself!
So, which £1500 inc a bit of fixing up money shed would do me best? I need four seats, some sort of boot and a max of two litre engine as I hate paying road tax!
I’m thinking Hyundai Coupe 2ltr, Suzuki Swift Vvti thingy or Mini Cooper. I’ve driven none of those, so over to the PH massive to set me on the path to enlightenment. Other sensible suggestions welcome too....
Cheers Schmo

Haven’t thought of the Vauxhalls, the twin top is nice for the money, 197bhp too....No mercs allowed, I’m too lanky for the (lovely) Alfas, bit wary of Renault electrics, the Hyundai isn’t leftfield, I started the thread with it as a possible!C230 SE

You say your wary of renault electrics , why ? other than a pricey cambelt and dephaser every 5 years there pretty reliable .
Also how about a bmw e46 ?

Ok will have a look at the Clio, just had a vague memory that they were temperamental. I fix all my motors myself and hate electrickery! No beemers, got a 5 series already as family panzerwagen...You say your wary of renault electrics , why ? other than a pricey cambelt and dephaser every 5 years there pretty reliable .

te by some chav' and the Accelera tyres all round I'd avoid any ATR for £2.5k, never mind £1.5k.Five years ago you could have got a 306 GTI-6 for £1.5k. Unless it's a real heap, not any more.

I bought my GTI-6 two-and-a-bit years ago for a grand. I've taken it from 128k to 160k and I'm ashamed to say that it hasn't even had a service in that time! I intend to treat it to a service and a long overdue cam belt change in the new year. I'm gobsmacked at just how faultlessly reliable it's been considering it's a 21-year-old car that gets used on a daily basis, and I can't think of anything that would have been more reliable/enjoyable to own for the money. All it's cost me so far is one indicator bulb and two front tyres!

Shame you don't want a beemer OP - I liked my 1st straight 6 petrol so much that I've now got numbers 4 and 5!
