Z4 E86 Star Spoke 108 Composite Alloy Replacements – Help!
Discussion
My wheels have the dreaded corrosion caused by the interaction of the two different metals.
I have been quoted £600 for a re-furb with any broken bolts charged extra at £7 each.
The same specialist has said they could supply a new set of RIVA DTM at the same price, including swapping the tyres.
The second option seems the most sensible but the car is currently completely original, so I'm hesitant about this.
Observations/suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks.

I would refurb in a bright silver/OEM finish. From the factory the polished lip and clear lacquer generally was the point of failure. I would either pick up a set which have already been refurbished or refurbish your own, this time opt to get the outer rim painted too to improve the durability.
The 108s are a BBS wheel and at the time I owned my 3.0 z4 were regarded as the wheel to have as it really suits the car visually (pre CSL knockoffs).

My current Z4 came with 108s, but luckily a previous owner had got them refurbed so they were still in good condition.
Knowing the issues they have I wanted to move them on before they started to deteriorate, and managed to get a set of used staggered 18" wheels on a z4 forum complete with tyres for just under £300! They are an E89 wheel, Style 295, so still a 5 spoke design but because they are off an E89 the offsets are different so they sit further out in the arches without needing spacers. I'm very pleased with them.
You might find somewhere that will do a refurb for less, or if you feel very brave you could save some money by splitting them yourself!
Unless you are really keen to keep 108s I'd just buy something else. If you want originality you could always look for 107s or MV2s (Style 135M) as these were also OE options on a Z4.
Good luck anyway.

might be worth checking out what's for sale here, there's usually a reasonable selection up for grabs..

Have Riva wheels on mine as never really liked the standard alloys and were replacing the MV2's within the first week of ownership. Happy with them and were supplied by Elite Wheels in Reading . They were given a couple of layers of Gtechniq before curing for a couple of days before being fitted. Little bit of a fiddle to clean with the spokes, but a minimal niggle for a set of wheels I now have.
