I had this itch about building myself a new all singing all dancing PC. Pricing up the parts came to around £1500. I wasn't going to be able to hide that away from SWMBO for very long. Sure enough, when she got wind of it I received a very detailed report on the condition of the living room sofa and chairs and how suddenly they were in need of immediate replacement, not to mention that would somehow require additional wall units, rugs so on and so forth.
Suddenly my £1400 PC is costing about £2800. frown
The plus side is there is now room for a bigger TV in the living room. smile

Get rid of the female, they are generally a nuisance,
then you can do what you want, spend your money as you see fit.

Quite simple really

I managed to get away with buying a bean to cup coffee machine and a new Steinhart watch recently, and also treated myself to some new clothes. I was expecting a comment about the new blinds we want to get for the bedroom but it hasn’t happened yet. I think I’m just tarring her with the same brush as my ex. Maybe she’s a goodun. Or maybe it’s still coming...

I manage to get away with guitar and hifi purchases by using the classic, yet reliable "oh, I have had that ages" defence. PC purchases are even easier as I just keep the case and change all the insides! biggrin

I am now expected to fork out the equivalent payment to the bread knife if a new guitar is purchased, yet I receive no contribution from her towards the household bills or mortgage.

Her mantra appears to be "What is yours is ours, and what is mine is my own."

This is more than likely why she has £50K sat in a savings account, and I have not even a pot to piss in, although I do have a lot of guitars.

I can never understand why people will only have a joint account then go begging for permission for every purchase.

Still, At least you'll not have to sleep on the new sofa.

I'll be glad when my bloody house is sold. The money we'll get from that will pay for improvements to the one we're in. Normally after bills I have my money and she has hers, but right now it's hard to justify a new bike when we need to fix the bathroom.
Then we can go back to normal.

Maybe she's not bothered about the blinds because she knows she wont be there in three months time.

I have helped the kids this month, £1200 for one as he got made redundant and needed cash to relocate, paying his car loan for a few months as well, £1200 on an early 21st present for one, £1500 on a trip to China( part of Uni course, been to Tokyo, Milan and New York so far), £265 for new glasses for another, going to an 80th party which is all laid on, apart from the meal tomorrow night so that will cost me £200 plus, plus fuel plus god knows what else. Plus all the bills, food fuel, most of the household stuff.

Fancied an MX5 to mess about with, mentioned it, she say "You cant afford it"

Hmm, wonder why that is...

My wife is incredibly understanding then! I just buy whatever I fancy, whenever I want. As long as bills are paid, anything else is not an issue. Same for cars, although I did check with her before buying the F-Type ... She loved it, so no issue there either!

It works both ways though.
