Can't find the answer to this anywhere. Simple enough question! How long does something have to be in the freezer before I can take it out again? I froze some minced beef about 24 hours ago and and now, due to some uncharacteristically poor planning, I need to use it. How long does it have to be in the freezer for before I can take it out again? I guess it needs to be frozen through before I can use it, but how long does that take?

I think you can take it out immediately, as soon as you've put it in.

No need for it to be frozen through at all.

There should be some symbols on it somewhere, next to the symbols there will be a number of months......that is the minimum length of time you can keep anything in the freezer for. I think you'll find your beef needs to be kept for 6 months before you can use it, best get a takeaway, don't forget to post pictures. biggrinlaughthumbup

That mince you’ve got? That’s how thick you are.

Take it out now and use as soon as its defrosted. Cook thoroughly. Don;t make rare burgers out of it.

I'm guessing there's no harm in cooking something from partially frozen (as opposed to partially defrosted) then. Anyway, I've eaten it, much to the OH's displeasure! It seemed to be frozen right through anyway.

Generally you have to leave things in there at least 5yrs. But if you can still tell what is in the packet then you haven't left it long enough.

You know when you've got this absolutely nailed on when you can neither tell what is in the packet nor get the packet out of the freezer without the use of a big knife.
