Recognise this part ?

Clearing out my stores and came across this distributor.It's a 6 cylinder Lucas with an hexagonal drive which made me think it was off a Ford Essex but it doesn't have a vacuum advance.
Any ideas ?

If it's for an Essex it's an early one. Doesn't look like the one in my 76.

For no particular reason, my first thought was Jag or something BL.

Def not Essex only Motorcraft on majority and little late numbers Bosch ever fitted never Lucas fitted to Essex 2.0/2.5/3.0 , cant help but maybe off a Austin/Leyland Vauxhall or Ford straight six from similar era

Yes,I didn't think essex engines ever used Lucas dizzies so that pretty much discounts that.
I've looked at images of Jag XJ dizzies on google and they're totally different.
I can't recall ever working on any other 6 cylinder motor so that makes me think it was already in my garage when I moved in 30 years ago !

But the fixing slot aragement looks like Essex to me I'm wondering if it's from a Essex that was used in a boat, the boat manufacturer may have required different timing advance and the like to a 3 litre capri. And Motorcrarft couldn't supply small amounts but Lucas could that would be suitable.

I've been all over google today with no luck.
I wonder if there's a number on the cap or points that might identify it.
I'll take a closer look on Monday

That's a good find,certainly looks very similar.

So,on that basis it's probably worthless ?

Well Boat does generally stand for Bring out another thousand, so maybe not worthless to the right nutcase.
