What did you do on your bike today??
Discussion
More rain days than dry thought I’d do a few bits to make the bike ‘for me’ ready for next year.
I had a clicky noise on the front end of my bike was pissing me off, so lifted the front on the bike to spin wheel to investigate. - left side pad moving so pin must be worn or something.
Spinning the wheel it felt like a stone inside the tyre. About 2hrs of f
k it leave it/but it’s almost new tyre/I know it’s there.
Wheel off / bead broken / tyre pulled a bit - the f
ker who fitted tyre left a cutoff bit of a valve in there!!
Also cut off bump on oem clipons to be adjustable and tried to string the back wheel to check alignment....will get back to that one.
Main reason for post was to moan about the valve mushroom.
As you were.......

Rode it. In the rain.
Sigh.
Haven't ridden mine in months. Last seen under some blankets in the garage and tons of stuff leaning against it. Someone could've stolen it and replaced it with a Black& Dekker Workmate and I wouldn't know.Sigh.
Good reminder though as I've booked the MoT for it for tomorrow - which is forecast as a monsoon. Marvellous.
Balanced the front wheel. Didn’t seem too much out but I was getting a vibration from the front at speed after I changed the tyre (and didn’t check it or balance it at that time - doh). Bit nippy to check it out on a ride though today - I’ll wait until I have to use it or it’s a bit warmer. Think I’ll check the primary chain tension on the vintage bike next. Then I’ll potter about in the garage some more before gin o’clock.
Dumped its Power Commander.
I've had it on my VFR800 with Staintune pipes for about 10yrs but just lately the thing has been slurping unleaded like it's going out of fashion - a brimmed tank gone in 80 miles. For the Power Commander to work it requires two O2 Sensor Eliminators to be fitted in the wiring near the exhaust headers - these are basically two great big resistors that fool the Fi into thinking everything is normal at the now disconnected O2 sensors.
After much head-scratching and replacing the thermostat (a stuck one is a common cause of bad mpg, and a total ball-ache to do) and the fuel pressure regulator it was still over-fuelling, so I decided to ditch the Power Commander and eliminators, rolling the bike back to stock, apart from the 'zorst.
Cue one bike that now returns normal mpg with no discernible difference in performance or rideability.
My theory is that the eliminator resistors have possibly blown but because this is something of a workaround then the Honda ECU might not have been able to detect or throw a fault. With them not working, I think it has been chucking unleaded in to the injection system at will - kind of 'limp mode in reverse', if you like. This would possibly explain it suddenly going from decent to bad mpg almost overnight, but still riding otherwise fine.
Anyway, it's all working now and I'm now unconvinced why I even bothered with a Power Commander in the first place. They are said to smooth out the VTEC 'step' at 8,000rpm - I should've just lived with it and rode around it as I used to!

Ride home from work last night on the blackbird in the cold, damp and dark has persuaded me to park it up now for the winter. It's bloody horrible and downright dangerous - by the time i got off the A1 i'd done 60 miles already and my visor was filthy, so the last 20 miles home in the dark was...erm...interesting.
The poor thing is filthy today, not that it's a garage queen anyway. So i think a good clean over the winter. Needs a new front tyre too, which didn't help in the ride home last night as it's like riding a 50p piece.
Also needs a bigger radiator fitting. It's getting up to 90-100deg in anything less than 50mph free flowing traffic. Soon as i slow below 30 i can hear the fan cutting in. Blackbirds are built for speed it seems...

Rode in this morning in the Dry.
preparing to ride home in a monsoon.
laughing at all these gentle types who wont ride in the winter.
also got it booked in to have the chain replaced on wednesday and a bit of a winter check over prior to riding it into work 99% of the days over winter!
Yeah been there, done that. Did that for 5 years. Now i'd rather have a coffee and an audiobook and be 20 mins laterpreparing to ride home in a monsoon.

I think it’s too wet out to even attempt washing mine preparing to ride home in a monsoon.
