Pistonheads - WBAC
Discussion
Following on from a post by Cuban Pete on this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... I thought it was worth a shot.
Introducing Pistonheads WBAC.
The rules are simple:
Sellers post where they are, car and the WBAC offer. PHers can buy at that price. No haggling no tyre kicking no returns.
Will this work?

WBAC rarely buy for their web price they get you there specifically to knock the price way down so yes this would work.
How do you know people are being honest with the WBAC price?
Soetimes you win though How do you know people are being honest with the WBAC price?
they gave us £1400 for a volvo xc70 that I would have paid £150 for

None of that changes anything.
Exhaust centre mounts broke last weekend. Fixed with a coat hanger
Burning oil
Coolant leak
Random electrical fault
Cat D
One headlamp significantly discoloured
Creaking drivers door
No service history
Think that was it. Might have got £500 selling to someone, but I'd have felt like a bit of a
.Couldn't find the parcel shelf, which they knocked £60 off for. Just found it in the loft. Am gutted.

Spares or repairs. You'd have easily doubled your money from WBAC imo. Burning oil
Coolant leak

Selling as spares or repair avoids that nonsense.
You say that...but I could guarantee you what would happen. I'd rather lose £250 than deal with those people.Taking the thread even more off topic, what happens to the car now? Does anyone check it over then punt it into the auction or does it go straight there without so much as a wash?
I think this has legs.
But before i dig any firther i'll explain my thinking.
ON WBAC (other car buying outfits are available) - you simply put in your reg, mileage and number of owners to let them arrive at some sort of number that i guess their algorithm checks against a trade price etc.
The next stage i assume is for your rock up and for them to pick absolutely anything up to knock the proce down. And with this they are entitle to as afterall they are in the business of making money.
The problem i have with these sites is that they are unable to appreciate a car for anything that might be more attractive to the market and invariably the person you speak to onsite doesn't care either, they are again just after their profit. Again, i'm fine with this.
Take my car (please, take it
) - i jest, i love this car but i chose this car as it has some nice bits including the below. It's a 58 plate 730d
- HUD
- Sunroof
- Lane Departure
- Pro Nav
- Nice leather seat in tan
- individual Paint
- Active rear wheel steer
- Brake Regen
- Adaptive Lights
Recently i've replaces as maintenance / legal pieces:
- Four Tyres
- Discs, Pads and Shoes All round
- Minor Service
- MOT
it has 83k on it and of course isn't perfect cosmetically but it is typical of a daily used car and includes the usual paint chips and the wheels could d with a refurb.
WBAC has just said their proce is £5400 - but with the above in mind we know that will drop by at least a grand for the paint and wheels alone.
So, to me the car is worth a lot more than that, but what is is worth to the private sale market?
I can't find another car on AT close to the spec, mileage, maintenance for under £9k, i can't remember mind you if that's a trade sale or not.
So, as i roll into the virtual PH WBAC forecourt, what is it worth?
