Emergency Tax: Will it resolve itself?

I started my new job in June, however at the time I didn't have the P45 from my old employer (never received it) so I filled out a new starter checklist form instead.

I've noticed that I'm still on emergency tax so I'm being taxed on all of my earnings. This is my only job and the salary is the same each month other than an annual bonus.

I guess I need to contact the tax office directly but I don't know what I would need to give them to prove anything - My old job had electronic payslips that I no longer have access to. Will I be assigned a correct code in due course if I do nothing and then potentially get a rebate next year?

Any advice would be appreciated.

It is a legal requirement for you to be given a P45. Maybe they have failed to notify HMRC.

Just call HMRC, these things are usually easily sorted.

Contact the pay dept at your old employer and point out they haven't supplied a P45. I had to remind my last employer who I left in March to send me mine.

After getting it contact tax office to get your tax code sorted.

I had it sorted in a two minute phone call to them . Doesn't take long at all.

They managed to fk mine up from emergency tax. It went from them owing me £400ish to me owing them £498!

The person I spoke to made a mistake. Only noticed as I wasn't deducted any tax this month.

Something i realised recently is they don't do this automatically know, you have to request it.
