Groups that sound alike...

I was just listening to "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica and thought it wasn't dissimilar to "Shadow of California" by Blue Oyster Cult but that's just an occasional song or some songs have got similar riffs. The thing that got me thinking about starting this thread is that I've heard a couple of tracks today by Queensryche (I know - 35 years too late ) and, to me, it was pretty much a dead ringer for Iron Maiden (awaits a torrent of abuse from Maiden fans and an unfriendly visit from Eddie!), based on this it really rams home how much luck must be involved that Maiden became mega-stars and Queensryche relegated to the status of "who???"

Any other similar sounding groups out there?

I think you will find Queensryche was a bigger band than you give them credit for, massive in America, less so
in the UK though . i dont really hear much similarities with Maiden, an odd riff here and there maybe, but overall
to my ears 2 very different bands.

As for other bands that sound like someone else, have a listen to Krokus ..Long stick goes boom, and tell me thats

amongst contemporary bands, Sports Team, Squid and one other, whose name evades me, sound entirely interchangeable.

They sound... weirdly and bizarrely alike. Really struggle to differentiate when they're played on the radio.
