Length matters

Is it just my chippie, me wearing rose coloured glasses or are chip shop general chips getting smaller in length? I just got a large portion or very short chips. The number of ones less than 2 inches / 5cm was quite shocking.

I know for a fact potatoes are not getting smaller and even crap fried potato vendors like Mcdonalds can get up to 3 inches / 8cm recurrently !

So many scraps ! frown

My wife will not be happy with that state of affairs on a Friday night.

Or will she?

The more chips you eat, the fatter you get and thus relatively smaller the chips look.

Let's get this clear. You measure your chips ?

What's the average length of a battered sausage up your way?

Weird that this would come up as I was talking to our local chippy the other day about this.

He said they have changed the size of their chips not by much but there calcs were approx 30k a year in profit extra from doing it.

We could ask a policeman to investigate when he's old enough.

On a related matter, whatever happened to "chats"? Before the resident comedians get fired up, "chats" was the local slang term for when chip shops ran out of old main crop spuds and had to fry new potatoes. So instead of chips you got a bag of fried round new potatoes. Some shops produced something reasonably edible, others never got the hang of it.

And if they didn't call them "chats" what was your local name for them?

Thread will now deteriorate to sarferners being rude about norvern mahnkees eating breadcakes.

Nothing. Chip shop's don't run out of chips. Ever.

WTF

Once I have heard of fish deliveries to be late, and chippie cut the sizes down to make them last, but run out of chips? rofl Where on earth was this inbred little village in which you grew up?

That's the point, they don't run out now, but when I was a sprog back in 50s they definitely did have a few weeks of only frying new spuds before main crop came in.
