Just tried to drive my 2011 A3 TFSI manual and it started as normal but the engine cut out after 1-2 seconds. Then I noticed that none of the dash lights were illuminated yet the stereo and heating lighting was on as normal. Wipers and external lights working as normal too. Both remote keys work fine. Any idea what the issue might be and possible remedies? Thanks

Had this once on my wife’s A3. Very strange issue, the car just kept cutting out a second or so after starting. Tried jump starting and it was fine. I did wonder if it was immobiliser related.

Thanks. Panic over. Started fine just now. I worked out what happened, I think. Earlier yesterday I loaded a big box into the boot. It appears that the hatch did not shut properly. Whilst it did not set off the alarm at the time it must have activated something. When the dashboard lights re-appeared this morning there was a "boot open" warning light on. I hope I am right otherwise there is an intermittent fault lurking!
