Headlight switch question
Discussion
Hello all,
Thanks for all the help so far, I'm running into new teething issues every time I take it out, but confident I'll get it sorted. It's 1983 280i.
Today it is the headlights. The switch on the dash is no longer making them pop up and turn on.
However - the light flash with the indicator does still work so the motors are fine.
Also The interior lights come on when I turn on the switch, so it seems to have some partial functionality.
I've taken it and plugged back in the relays, so that seems to be fine. Any idea how to get in behind the panel so I can check the wiring?
Cheers,
J

There is a good chance that it's just the switch contacts. Try operating it a few time to see if it that cleans up the contacts or take it out and clean the contacts, it is possible to take the switch apart. If you need to get at the wiring I think it's just 2 screws one either side of the center console and the surround should slide forward.

Cheers Steve. Got back in there and the switch is busted, found a replacement pretty easily (I think its just the old tr7 switch) but i'm struggling to find a replacement for the plugs, which are a bit melted. Any suggestions?Cheers Steve
Cheers!

Good website but as I recall they are round rather than spade on the back of the switch, if you are lucky https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/39/... and the six-pole one 051303 might possibly fit.
Yes the chances are the column switch will have a plug with pins
Couldn't find the pins at the time hence posted the above as a possible fix by cutting off original plug and socket
Those pins you've linked to are only 2mm and will very likely burn, not having much of a length to them doesn't help

Found 3mm male and female terminals that may well fit the plug and socket
