Indian scammers
Discussion
Sure many of us have been cold called by these awful people but it's a major industry in India. Is political correctness getting in the way of doing anything about it? I have an elderly relative who was conned out of £600 and the bank refused to pay back. It's come to the point now if I'm called by any indian person just slam the phone. down. Probably the reason why call centres are returning to England because no one trusts an indian on the phone. Sure this post won't last long on here because of PC

I am sorry your relation was conned out of some money. Why should the bank pay them back? Who fault was it?Driver101 said:
We can't even deal with all the English call centres trying to encourage people to make fraudulent accident injury claims.
Personally I don't remember the last time I had an Indian call centre call me.
After I was crashed into this year iv had nothing but calls. Anything up to 15 per day on my mobile. All trying to get me to commit fraud and claim injury when I was 100% not injured. Thing is, they know my name, they know her name and they know every detail about it. I will never insure with the same insurer again. Complete charlatans. Iv got a list of near 100 blocked numbers now and others keep phoning. Beyond a joke and should be illegal. Personally I don't remember the last time I had an Indian call centre call me.
As for indian call centres iv been getting a complete mix tbh. When I hung up on one he actually called me back and told me he will kill me and my family. Wtf. Everytime I hung up he instantly would phone again. Kept his voice low to not get caught by his boss. Only stopped when I got a customer to answer for a laugh so she could hear it.
Also had the microsoft computer scammers. I litterly just squeaked high pitch down the phone like a dying cat... 2 mins non stop noise she still never hung up... so when I did she phoned back to tell me I need a hospital. Cheeky cow haha.

I’m aware many otter banks have just said it’s your own fault and your loss.
These people are very convincing to the unsuspecting.
TBF the worst scammer I've had to deal with was "BT customer street", called more or less weekly for about 6 years despite orders not to, informing them I'm TPS, even had them call back and threaten me and tell me they're never going to stop calling after giving them an earful, until I said something incredibly unpleasant to a woman calling me and they stopped after that.
Will never buy a BT product ever again though!

My parents are clearly on some old gits number list
They get a lot of calls a day
Thankfully they are switched on at the moment, but they are going to get sucked in when they are expecting a call about something and get a scam call before the genuine
My friends gran got done for her life savings, finished her off

We used to be plaques by these calls on our landline, but what amused me was that the callers always had some typically British sounding christian names like Stephen, Michael, Susan etc.
I imagine the daily team briefing with their boss saying "now then Suhkvinder, today you are going to be called Lesley".

Get quite a few of these calls on my mobile they show up as landline number. I usually hang up during the pause between answering and the time it takes for them to realise someone has picked up.
Other times I put on my pretend Indian accent and answer in the name of a made up tandoori restaurant and ask them for their order.
They soon hang up.

To be very blunt, i think a very steep learning curve is going to be called for some of our citizens, or else they give up the right to control their affairs from a telephone?
What is the answer?
Why should the banks re-imburse them if it is not the bank's fault?
Traditionally, banks don't try to check the destination of the money - or check if the account the money is going to is suspicious in any way - such as having been set up only a day or so before the scam commences. What is the answer?

Banks are well aware that they have a part to play in protecting their customers and they have recently started being a bit more proactive in these cases.
One benefit of being on Sky is that I can block these callers with the SKy (Shield?) service that makes callers announce who they are before I accept the call.
Before this I used to talk softly so they would have trouble hearing me, and then hold the phone to the test button on the smoke alarm.

I had one of these scammers on the phone from ' Microsoft' last week. After stringing him along for ten minutes playing the Windows XP start up sound from Youtube then 'accidentally' shutting down the computer and then playing the XP shut down sound half a dozen times I got bored and told him i had Google Chromebook and it doesnt have Windows. He went absolutely berserk and called me every name under the sun.
After he called me various rude names i said at least im not a thieving scammer to which he pointed out if he didnt do it someone else would,he asked why i would waste his time and i said if he was talking to me he was not talking to a vulnerable old person.
