I’m loathed to post news from the provinces but this story from my home town is quite the feat!

For scale;

As far as I’m aware, there isn’t any extinct rebellion type hoo-haa going on in carlisle.

Re Fred D, by coincidence I was involved with this chimney around 20 years ago in terms of assisting with the preparation of a reinstatement valuation (it's a G11 listed buidling)
We actually spoke to the man himself and he referenced the steel bands it was wrapped in some years ago to stablise the brickwork and I clearly recall his comment - "and those f
king bands, they wouldn't hold a bag o s
te together".
He was wrong in hindsight but it's still a brilliant turn of words!

The chimney's laddered up by the looks of it.
....the contractor will be getting a roasting for leaving it unsecured
Used to get issues in some area's where people scaled places where ladders and access would be secured as per requirements. Only so far you can go I suppose.....the contractor will be getting a roasting for leaving it unsecured
Scott Mattinson, 24, and his fiance Nadene, 25, live in a flat which overlooks the Chimney."We heard a noise at about 10.30pm last night - some sort of wailing; like something in distress," he said.
"We thought nothing of it at the time."

Is something wailing in distress considered normal in that part of the world?

Shoot the idiot down and re-open the bloody roads.
Well it certainly didn’t take long for that sort of comment to arrive.This might be a revolutionary position to take, but how about you wait and see the reasons behind what happened before you start suggesting that a fellow citizen is murdered just to ease a bit of traffic congestion.
