I drove past a traditional GATSO camera at 5am this morning at above the 30 limit. I was travelling towards it - but it flashed me?? I thought GATSOs were only rear facing?

I know there's other cameras that can take your picture when your oncoming - but this was drfinitely a GATSO.

It was definitly me it was flashing at - there was no other traffic around. It was one of the ones they can turn around to get my lane, but it was pointing in my direction and flashed me front on.

What does anyone think? Do I have a ticket on the way? Are they meant to do this? Was it malfunctioning? Do they flash my lane, but can't issues a ticket??

One near me does it all the time.

If its a GATSO, it can't do anything to you. Enjoy wasting it's film.

It is an option that the gatso has that is not a HO approved method of speed-trapping. Some speed camera partnerships 'accidentally' turn it on. Dont worry they wont issue a ticket, if they do you can walk all over them in court.

Just to put you right.

If a Gatso (and ONLY a Gatso) flashes you in the face it means it's empty: no camera and so, no film, and so, no film wasted.

The only use for flying past it and getting it to flash you in the face is to check the trigger speed. This should also give you an idea of all the trigger speeds in the area. The one's I've seen tested are all set at 41mph in a 30 limit. Pretty fair considering their location.
