first track day report
Discussion
Attended my first track day on Thursday last week at Castle Combe. The day had a 105db limit organised by the Westover sports car people.
Turned up a little late so missed the briefing but had a few laps in the Westover Lexus for some familiarisation and instruction on line and etiquette. This was followed by a bit of noise testing. I was fine at 101db but Big treacle in his de muffled chim came out at 106 so mufflers had to be purchased - just another £150 to add to the days expenses.
My full intention when on the track was to take it easy for a few laps to get to grips with the layout and traffic etc but I soon found myself on the tail of a Ferrari 355 and pushing hard. Spent the first session giggling inanely whilst battling to keep something that resembled a racing line. Got out of shape a few times with a couple wobbles and had to catch the rear end once or twice but all was well and I felt that I did ok for a first bash.
The following sessions were just about gaining confidence and getting more ballsy with Quarry. I guess they call it that because if you loose it there they will have to dig you out.
Absolutely exhausted by the end of the day but very happy indeed. Astounded how the standard Elise kept up with most things and now realise that 0-60 times are for showing off at traffic lights and are virtually meaningless on the track.
Got to meet Twinpipe and Just1 at last - good lads. Thanks for the blast in the Exige Twin. See you guys soon.
Here are a few pics of the day...

you're lucky I didnt bore you with all the photos.
105db is very loud. I was worried that I might be over so took my cat along in the boot to slot in if need be but it was miles under - remember its not a linear curve.
Castle Combe is very strict on volume apparently and most of their days seem to be 98 or 100db. No idea what other track policies are but will be finding out and planning my next outing very soon
