Hi guys,

Who can tell me which is better out of the two mig welders, Clarke or Sealey? Was looking at the Clarke 135TE or the Sealey Supermig 150... I'm only mainly interested in welding up my car !

P:S, not quite the same topic as I originally posted...

Sealeys my preference or Lincoln but the Clarke’s are as good as any. I think I’ve got a baby Clarke in the garage .

I've got a Clarke MIG, the price was good on one of their VAT free offer days, I've used it for all sorts of car-related stuff, and I'm happy with it.

It actually replaced another Clarke that was stolen, didn't feel any compunction to change brands.

They're by no means proper kit, but they're as good as anything else at the price point, and fine for domestic use.

What's your budget and desirability?

I have a ESAB Caddy MIG 160 which is lovely and I would well recommend it, but depending on suitably.

Friend of mine was recently raving about his new JASIC machine from BOC.

Having used one a couple of times I can safely say it's a nice welder, I'm only an hobby user but it's easy to use and at the price point you can't go wrong.

For occasional and limited use the disposable cylinders are fine, else you can also add a proper regulator and either run of the BOC hobbiest discount (£50/year ish size X or Y argoshield) or a local alternative.

It is possible that if both Sealey and Clarke welders are Italian made they are made by the same company,Telwin, they sell their product until their name as well. This is based on buying spares for both products,if the products are Chinese then the buying has changed.

Clarke, Sealey, Draper etc are all just rebadgers these days I think. All ok for the odd basic tool, but would not spend good money on anything powered. Better to track the original importer and buy unbranded for cheap.
