Driving on motorway yesterday with limiter set at 80 and passed a speed camera van on bridge above. I suspect I was probably doing 76-77 real world speed at an indicated 80.

Will I get away with it completely?
Or speed awareness course?
Points I’d have thought unlikely?

Van frowns start at 79mph, so you're probably fine. Slightly nervous at the mo, as have changed cars, but forgot that the "new" 81mph cruise may not be the same actual speed as the last one. After the event Waze experiments have it flickering between 78 and 79...

depends on the county you were in. Devon/Cornwall/Penrith and the like are well known for having zero-tolerance to being over the limit even by the smallest margin (and I found out the hard way). Outside of those counties, you'll probably be alright. If you do get something through the post, you'll well within SAC territory.

Download the TomTom speed camera app. Great free tool. It's saved me a few times. It also gives your GPS based speed.
Not fool proof or a guarantee of complete coverage of mobile sneaky tts but it definitely evens up the odds a little.

Have been past a van in Cumbria at an indicated 80, and never heard anything (probably about 75 true).

I happily drive past any motorway speed trap (static or mobile) at speed+10% and I've never been flashed (do it daily on the M25, M4 and M3). Other roads however i stick to the limit as i think they stricter. So 79ish from a van on a bridge i suspect you are fine (clearly i have only based this guess on my limited knowledge)

OP if you were on an indicated 80 or less it is vanishingly unlikely you will hear anything. Ignore the post about zero tolerance in certain areas of the country, always lots of talk about being done for 75 on a motorway etc but no one ever comes up with hard evidence

I always find Devon a good place to get the hammer down. I'll keep my eyes peeled

Only time I've been caught was by Somerset & Avon Police. 68 in a 60 (temporary limit on M4/M5 junction).

Am in exactly the position as of Sunday morning. Van on A1M in N Yorkshire, doing about 77 - 80. Reduced speed as soon as spotted him but I don’t know if that makes any difference.

I posted this a few years back when I got done. Appealed it, which failed and I was told there was zero tolerance on Cumbria's roads.



For the record; Monday lunchtime, all three lanes open, no reduced speed limit etc etc.
