I've practically settled on what I want next - A 650i GC.

I know about the N63's issues but, realistically, as long as I get one with the TU is it likely to give me much bother? That really only seems to rule out very early examples, so can't imagine there's many of them about.

So any reason why I should avoid? And no, I don't want a 640d so don't even mention it wink

M6gc is probably the safer bet I'd have thought

Afaik n63tu solves some but not all the problems.

Yeah, M6 does nothing for me at all tbh. In fact I think it's an answer to a question no one asked BMW - an M version of a GT car. It's also a lot more ££!

640i maybe? No hot vee problems and lighter front end for that nice turn in. Plentiful fast.

I'm set for a V8 next - have to scratch the itch. I'd probably then go back to 6cyl with something like a Giulia 4 cheese, or I might even then go the A110 route. But I have to have a V8 and I've always lusted after the GC.

Even if the N63 TU is still unreliable, buy it as AUC or put a BMW warranty on it afterwards, to minimise the risk of catastrophic and expensive bork?

I quite fancy one of these too in coupe form. There's an immaculate 2011 650i (non-Gran)coupe near me for sale with 46k miles and fsh.

But I also have strong want for a previous-gen facelift LCI 2008-2011 650i coupe because of n/a V8

2011 would be an early N63 before the technical update, so I'd be wary personally.

Totally get the n/a V8 want, and I had considered one myself, but I'm keen to get into something a bit newer now having spent the last 7yrs in an E91. It was 650i GC or Jag XFR/XFRS for me, but I'd only be considering the Jag purely for its engine - I've always lusted after a 6 GC so am going with that, hopefully.

Engine is older now, with more experienced techs who can look after them better. Many many highly modified versions of this engine so I don't think it is that bad. A lot better than the S85 in reliability. Engine aside, the car is perfectly fine too, I wouldn't mind a car where the most concern would be just the engine.
