E39 bmw

Mostly I will be driving on my own but want to be able to lug stuff about, don’t want a Mondeo I know they are good but don’t like the

Get the Merc.

I'm biased as I bought a cheap one as a hack to cart stuff about but I love it. Not especially frugal even as a diesel but its a lovely place to sit as the miles waft by.

Merc was my first thought, I have got a 2.7 diesel s type at the moment that’s not particularly good on fuel and have a weekend toy but will be doing most miles the hack it will be virtually all motorway miles Bedford to the I.O.W so I suppose the merc is the most logical, thanks for your advice.

C6-A6 Avant but not sure of what you'd get for that money.

Volvo V70? Great cars, and probably more to choose from than the V60 you have mentioned.

V60 better car than V70 (feels far more modern) but not a lot of space.

An E61 in this price range is a brave choice. They tend to go wrong once they get to that level. Merc a better bet.

Truth is at this price point the "volume" stuff is far more sensible as you'll get newer and less mileage for your money - Mondeo (I know you say you don't like them but they're OK), Avensis, 508, etc.

Accord also worth looking at. Mazda 6 is OK if petrol.
