My phone knowledge is limited and I'm after a recommendation.

I have an ageing iphone 5 that I got off the other half a few years ago and it just seems noticeably slower and clunkier than it used to.

Don't do contracts, I've always been a PAYG luddite at £15 a month and I've preferred the apple phone to all the previous android phones I've had.

Any suggestions on a replacement for £200 or less?

I like the size of the 5 and could do with a half-decent camera, couldn't give a st about things like wireless charging and facial recognition etc.

I like the size of the 5 also but have reluctantly started carrying my 7. So I too am looking for an up-to-date replacement for the 7 which is similar size to the 5. Come on Apple, it used to be that smaller was better !

All the rumours suggest an SE 2 is coming out next year but it’s not going to be for that budget.

OP, if you’re staying with Apple and that is your budget your looking at second hand or refurb. You will get a current SE or possibly a 7 for around that budget or less, try looking at Groupon, just put iPhone in the search.

Otherwise it’s a switch to Android......

Edited to add, Groupon has refurb SE from £149 and 7 from £215.

Go for the 7 if you can find the extra £15 down the settee..... smile

I'm not ruling out android entirely but the apple system did seem to be slicker when I changed, granted it was from a Galaxy S2 at the time.

Certainly wouldn't rule out a refurb or second hand effort, the last 3 phones have been that!

Giffgaff currently have a ‘refurbished’ iPhone 7 32gb for £159, also their sim bundles (pay as you go, each month) are good deals, and run on o2 network.

Can't recommend the iPhone SE enough it's very quick on iOS 13

Came out in 2016 it's basically a 6s with a better camera and chip in a 5s Body

You can pick up refurb ones up to 64gb on eBay for around £80-£100

Rule out Android it is horrible.

Try tesco mobile, for about £5 a month more than you pay for P&G.

If your going Android it needs to be Android One or Android Pixel only as other manufacturers put far too much stuff on them.

Have a look at the Android One Nokia's they can be had new for under £200. Or look at Refurb iPhones from Giff Gaff.

The SE is a significant improvement over a 5, they have refurbished 7s for about £20 more that will likely be more relevant for longer than an SE.

Good bit more than £20 for the same condition and unlocked.
