Ok so here is one for the old tech folks. I need to try and get data off an old HDD from an industrial machine.

I think this is an old "Laptop" HDD, is this an SCSI connector or some random old school IDE connector? I have tried the standard 40 (?) pin old fashioned ribbon lead and it does not fit.

Any clues on how i can try and get the data off?

That's IDE - power is also supplied through the same connector.

You could at one time get adaptors - not sure now.

EDIT: I believe this is the correct adaptor.

The one posted above won't work - it's a standard IDE adaptor. You need a 44 pin adaptor.

Wow - posts were deleted. When I said "The one posted above won't work" I was referring to the post above mine (now deleted).

You need one of these

AGPTEK USB 3.0 to IDE/SATA Converter, Hard Drive Adapter with Power Switch for 2.5"/3.5" SATA/IDE SSD Hard Drive Disks & 5.25" CD/DVD Drives, Support 2TB, Include 12V 2A Power Adapter & USB 3.0 Cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075WTVLKB/ref=cm_sw_r...

Change the mini jumper on it from CS (cable select) to SL (slave).

Connect the supplied cable to drive and USB port on your laptop. Connect power cable to drive and power it up. Your laptop should recognise the drive and you can copy the files from it.

I don't think that's the correct adaptor - different number on pins / holes
It's correct.

It has a slot for 2.5" IDE (44 pin) drives) as well as the standard IDE drive.
