Left my V12 2012 Vantage for 2 weeks and flat as a pancake which doesn’t bode well. I can’t use a battery conditioner but with my Maserati I swapped the battery for a stop/start one from Bosch which seemed to keep it ticking over. Has anyone done something similar and if so, what size battery etc do you recommend?

Cheers

From memory I think stop/start batteries are just beefier to cope with their task of continually re-starting the car in slow moving traffic so higher amps, whether that equates to a good option for your situation i'm not sure but i'm guessing it will be better.

Cant help on specific types though, but if you have the dimensions of the standard battery to hand and go to an accessory shop they'll be able to find a fitment with the correct case size, terminal type, and ampage.

What a coincidence, I swapped the battery in my Maserati too with a start/stop one last year. Can't really tell if it had been beneficial, sold it in April for the N420.

I would suggest to do that again though, apart from being a bit more expensive, you don't really have anything to lose. Just respect factory dimensions (duh), CA and capacity.

Cheers. Recovery recharged it yesterday and I drove it for 2 hours. Alternator seems to be fine but completely flat again this morning so something else must be draining it. Back to the dealership!

As an aside, I had one of the solar trickle chargers for the Maserati. Looking online it describes 2 OBD ports, one for body, the other one you need to connect to.

Am I right in saying there is only one on the V12V above the clutch pedal as opposed to two above the throttle pedal in the V8? Can only find the one.

I would suggest its new battery time, I replaced mine one year ago on a 2010 model, can leave it three weeks and still fine.

Thanks. Nothing works. They came out again and said battery is gone. £400 to replace!

£400.00 for a battery!!! They must be on drugs. A decent battery for that should be around £100.00 and 15 minutes to install.

The seats and windows can lose their memory when the battery goes completely flat but a 2 minute reset will have them working again fine.

Hi goatherder2001

As an aside are you aware of any issues with the tracker fitted to the car? They are notorious for causing a battery drain when they fail. Could be worth checking before fitting a new battery. I had battery problems with my V12V which was caused by the original Eurowatch tracker unit failing.

Best Regards

From the FAQ thread -

Occasionally the seats need resetting, which is disconcerting as you need to move all the way up all the way towards the dash, the back all the way towards the dash- everything up and forward. Dont panic thinking you will make it worse / un-drivable (seat too far forward), it does work.

Original battery is from Banner

http://bannerbatteryfinder.co.uk/

I paid £110 direct from Banner for an upgraded 800 Amp battery, you just need to make sure that the dimensions are the same specifically the height of the battery.

If you've got the seats forward and all the interior bits removed ready and the old battery out then maybe 15 minutes.....

From:- Frequently Asked Questions

Window / Seat Resets

After a low or flat battery resetting the windows may be required, the tell-tale sign is when a door is opened the window drops slightly an on closing the door the window does not return to the closed position,
1. Sitting in the car with the ignition switch turned on with all doors closed, press and hold the electric window switch in the down position, once the window is fully down keep the button pressed for a further 5 seconds, you may hear a click as the window position is relearned,
2. now send the window fully up again when the window reaches the top continue to hold the button for a further 5 seconds again a click may be heard,
3. repeat the above procedure for the other window

- If this doesn't work a 'hard' reset can be carried out on the appropriate window module by removing the power. Further info on the reset for the Vantage is here

Nope, as long as you are not hunting around a tool box trying to find the correct size tools, then 15 minutes is easily possible, literally seconds to run the drivers seat forward and lift out the rear seat base held in with Velcro, then a socket or screwdriver to remove the 10 bolts/screws holding the cover over the battery. Disconnect the battery clamp and two nuts to remove the terminals. One battery out, the other in and refit the removed parts.15 minutes.

To take longer you would need to be faffing around with an open ended spanner on those 10 screws.

From the manual....

Battery
Removal
1. Power the drivers seat forward.
2. Remove the RH rear seat to reveal the battery
compartment.
3. Remove bolts (x10). Remove the battery compartment
cover.
4. Disconnect the battery terminals.
5. Remove the battery clamp. Disconnect battery vent
tube and pull the battery from the compartment.
Installation
1. Lower the battery into it’s compartment.
2. Clamp the battery. Torque bolts to 9 Nm.
3. Install the battery terminals. Torque to 9 Nm.
4. Install the battery compartment cover. Torque bolts to 9 Nm.
5. Install the rear seat base.
6. Reposition the drivers seat.

With this lockdown, I am wondering if I will need to replace my battery once done... Do you guys have any other input if using a start & stop battery is beneficial if the car is used less often?

I've not swapped the V4.7's battery for stop start one yet but when it needs replacing (which it pretty much does I think) I will go that route. I can't see any downside and I did it on my previous 911 which also had high residual current draw exacerbated by a 3rd party tracker.

It certainly seemed to do the job and there were no observable negative side effects. If anything I'd say it started a fraction quicker., but that could easily have been my natural tendency towards confirmation bias.

On the Vantage I leave it on a Ctek charger most of the time which I think is masking a basically dead battery (and if I am away from home for a few days I pop a solar charger on it as well yep, I'm paranoid...but it is a convertible and the emergency door open procedure for a flat battery is frankly scary!)
