V8 Oil Filters
Discussion
Hi, drowning sorrows after the rugby, the subject turned to oil filters! Consensus of opinion of slow oil pressure build up could be fitting filters with no anti drain valves? Any thoughts please? I was under the impression that the correct fram/mann filter would have an anti drain valve? The number prefix ERR was mentioned? Isn't that a Landrover 90 etc part number? Thanks J C.
Originally it was the Unipart GFE295...I managed to buy a few a couple of years ago but cannot see them for sale anymore...when changing the oil do the filter last...put some oil in the new filter...not too much and fill the remote lines up..finger over hole of filter and as quick as you can put it on..
then once fitted remove king lead and crank until oil pressure light goes out...happy days...

Thanks Mark. Exactly what I did using a plastic bottle to prime directly into the filter housing until it overflows, fill the filter and then quickly reassemble. Oil light goes out now almost as the engine turns. The original discussion, fueled by I don't know how many PINTS of Doombar, was the slow reaction of the oil pressure gauges on V8's. Changing the oil pressure sender supplied by Racetech (Stewart Warnier gauges) if anything made it worse! At £40+ I'm rather reluctant to buy another. A guy with an RV8 and SDI 3.5 uses Landrover 90 filters. Only because he gets them from work! At the moment I using MANN W940/24 filters. Not sure if they've got a anti drain valve or not? Previous posts suggest it is a personal preference? Cheers J C.
The gauge is merely a guide, low oil pressure is better than no oil pressure, regular oil & filter change is recommended for the V8, I have mine done every year irrelevant of mileage...I wouldn't worry too much about slow or flicking gauges...kind of comes with the territory...
