Just tried, but in vain to setup a laptop I have to use a sim card, for mobile diagnostic work. It's a Dell studio laptop, bought the correct wireless hardware (dw5620) and installed software, drivers etc,but the sim card is never recognised??
Self diagnostics says hardware, software passes, network signal doesn't pass?

Have you activated the sim in a phone first? Most sims will not work in a laptop until they have been activated by the carrier.

Yes it's activated in my phone. There's an activation tab in the wireless broadband card settings in the laptop but it doesn't activate, its a site called Verizon or something it directs to when I try to activate it,surely this should be Sky who I'm with??

Verizon is a US mobile phone network - I'd suspect something in your setup is tied to using only Verizon sim cards. Is the sim card slot built into the laptop or on an external dongle?

This would suggest your card is locked to US providers:

The sim card slot is accessed by removing the laptop's battery.

It shouldnt be anything much more than enabling the mobile network option in W10 and sticking in the SIM, it could well be the issue described above.

If its looking for Verizon .. it suggest that you need to update the APN/Data profile.

Have you got DMBU instralled and does this let you update the settings ?

( i cant go any further on the laptop in front of me .. as it locked down to corporate settings )

I just went into the network settings and there's two options for 'EU' networks,Generic or Vodafone, neither of which connect.

I updated the profile but didn't make any difference.Don't have DMBU.Just contacted the seller of the wireless hardware and this is what he gave me back.
