Used Car Suggestions £11k, circa 12k miles (work dependent)

Hello all,
I currently drive a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Auto, circa 90k miles, has a reasonable sized dent on the passenger side door. (How much would i expect?)
The car has bad misting problems and the air con doesn't get hot enough during cold spells.
Also, this is my first car after passing my driving test. I wanted to purchase a manual car to hone my skills but ended up with an auto.
This is something to consider if i decide to go with a manual as i would practically have to relearn driving a manual, something i am willing to do.
Car usage is dependent on the project i have; working away from home or working at the head office
At the head office: 32 miles round trip to work 70/30 city and motorway
Working away from home: Usually 1 long round trip to a city where i then work/commute in said city for 3/4 days. I am currently doing this at the moment. It involves a 300 miles round trip to north lincolnshire and whilst i'm there short 3 to 5 miles commutes.
Based on the above I am looking to purchase a used (or new if possible) car for less than £11k. Chances are I'd probably obtain a bank loan for the purchase but open to suggestions
High on my list is good mpg (however i feel i would be better with a petrol car than diesel), cheap tax,low insurance, reliable, decent extras like sat nav heated windscreen
At the moment i am looking at a VW Golf 1.4 TSI Match edition
