My current race car (Radical) is particularly easy to stall, add that to the start grid I'm usually on (Knockhill) being on a slope means standing starts give me nightmares trying to work 3 pedals with 2 feet. Life would be a lot easier with a handbrake but my car isn't equipped.

So a hydraulic handbrake looks like a simple(ish) option to let me hold a light pressure on the rear brake to prevent rolling backwards while getting the clutch/accelerator going.

The question is - is there any negative impact to the braking performance? Particularly when it comes to using the bias adjuster - will it adjust the feel differently?

The ones I've seen are basically transparent in the 'off' position. I don't know whether they're all like that, but if you asked your supplier I'm sure they'd tell you.

That's my thinking, just had a slight concern that the cylinder sizing may introduce a bit of bias of its own and upset the current balance of the brakes, so was just looking for confirmation from anyone with experience of fitting one.

There is no reason for them to affect braking at all in that regard.

Wouldn't a line lock be easier/cheaper/neater?

Something like this - https://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-Stage-Control-Sol...

If it's purely to hold the car on the startline, a linelock type device via a button or ecu controlled would probably make more sense.

It hadn't occurred to me to use a line lock - certainly an easier install and working on the front wheels would be better (concerned that the handbrake if not released quickly enough would make it easier to stall by adding drag to the rears)...will investigate

Don't see that it makes any difference which end you apply braking to from that point of view, and I don't see a line lock releasing any quicker that a hydraulic handbrake. The handbrake on the other hand has the advantage that you can control it manually if you need to adjust the amount of braking e.g. if you decide to inch forward, which is not possible with a line lock.

Line lock solenoid for me too. Almost certainly cheaper and easier to install

Personally I’d put it on the rear axle line and then you can use it to preload the driveline for launching if your clutch can handle it

Unfortunately its a bike engine based (Radical SR3, so hayabusa based RPE engine), not sure if this means it wil lbe more or less prone to exploding under this kind of abuse - certainly makes it a pain in the tits to launch at present....
