I'm looking for a change. After 15 years of being in the motor trade in one capacity or another, with no real potential to move up the ladder, I'm getting to the point where I'm done.

I've felt this way before, the motor trade does that to people judging by some other threads in here, but not felt like I was up to taking the risk until now.

I've had a quick look at some courses for qualifying as an electrician but from what I can see, nothing seems to be available as evening classes, only 5 week blocks, which isn't something I'd be able to do.

Does anyone know if evening classes are available or if there's something else which is similar, as in, not office based, not heavy manual labour (I'm weedy) and not requiring some sort of insane talent which I don't have, like stonemasonry?

What do you do in the motor trade? Office or Mechanic based?

If Mechanic based depending on where you are you could look at aerospace work, cranes at docs, factory maintenance?

I started out in a warehouse for a mail order performance parts company (think Demon Tweeks but much smaller), then got a job as a tyre fitter at 18, then moved from there into a tuning company in the office for a couple of years and I've been in a regular parts job since. I've looked at other parts jobs, within main dealers as well as other motor factors and the money isn't there.

I could do another sales job in a different segment but I fancy something completely new and now seems the right time.

I don't have any qualifications relating to the motor trade but all my experience is there, meaning I've been trapped for a while unable to do anything different.

You're what, early thirties now?

The world is still your lobster. Don't limit your future by limiting your thinking about your options.

Have you looked at apprenticeships in the motor trade?
