991 GT3 Sharkwerks muffler bypass - Help - London / SE
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I recently bought my first GT3, and am generally loving life. I've had PPF applied, a new harness installed and have driven 1500 miles in the first month of ownership. I've been considering a Sharkwerks rear muffler bypass from ABP Motorsport in Cheshire. There are lots of YouTube videos and quite a few GT3 owners seem to have gone with the Sharkwerks over other products (Milltek etc.).
Before I commit to buying one, I'd ideally like to hear what one sounds like in real life - YouTube is great but is no substitute to actually hearing something in person. So ... do any GT3 Owners in the London or SE area have a GT3 with a Sharkwerks fitted that I can meet up with (possibly at a forthcoming R20 / R25 PCGB meet) and have a listen?
Thanks in advance.

I had a Sharkwerks by pass fitted to our Gen 2 GT3 by ABP, to be 100% honest the conclusion after driving 6,500 miles is that the car sounds truly fantastic. The added advantage is that when the exhaust switch is in the off position it is only a little louder than standard plus the drone at about 85mph disappears. Chris and his team at ABP could not be more helpful and professional. Make sure that you opt for the 100mm tips as well.
Have a look on U.Tube at Mr JWW's posts he did a video with a Sharkwerks by pass fitted by ABP to his GT3, that is where you will hear the results.

Regarding the Sharkwerks bypass - I'm not sure whether the square section between the two main pipes actually links them (enables passage of gasses) or whether it's purely mechanical bracing. If it doesn't link the main pipes, the design is pretty much identical to the bypass pipe that Hayward and Scott make here in the UK for considerably less outlay. I have one, and the quality is excellent.
If you want the ultimate bypass pipe though, this sounds amazing, is ridiculously light, and is a thing of beauty (have one of these also): https://www.jcr-developments.com/porsche/product/9...
Nothing wrong with Sharkwerks, but there are other options.

I like how they claim that trimming 6kg "can yield huge improvements in handling balance" Nothing wrong with Sharkwerks, but there are other options.

Was certainly just bracing on mine. If you want the ultimate bypass pipe though, this sounds amazing, is ridiculously light, and is a thing of beauty (have one of these also): https://www.jcr-developments.com/porsche/product/9...

Presumably those who've had a centre bypass fitted to a 991 GT3 haven't tried to take it on a track day? I gather the 991 GT3 can be a bit marginal in standard form for tracks with a stricter noise limit, but I'd be interested in hearing real world experiences. I love the sound of a GT3 with a bypass, but given that I bought mine so that it would laugh off the occasional track foray, I'd be loathe to do something to rule that out.

Ive been fine at Silverstone, Spa and the Ring. Also an unsilenced day at Donington. I wouldn’t risk taking it anywhere else in the UK - although I’m sure you’d be ok at Knockhill too as the sheep don’t really complain
I’ve recently had a titanium bypass fitted on my 991.2 which is marketed by GAD Race engineering and made by IWS developments both of who are based in Essex.
There’s some videos on the GAD Race Engineering Instagram.
It sounds AMAZING and I’m very much in love with the sound.
If you search Boyd_brcardetailing_rees on Instagram there’s a few videos of drive by’s etc.

I think the bypass is marginal on noise for the bigger tracks. On the 997 RS I've been ok at Silverstone a couple of times and then more recently black flagged a couple of times for breaching 107db driveby!
I guess the weather conditions might play a role or silverstone have started enforcing noise limits where before they were lax? Nowadays I also carry a set of silencer tips which I will use at Silverstone. Spa was ok last time but I did get one warning.

+1 for Hayward & Scott option - had one fitted on a 997.2 GT3 and it sounded just as good as the Sharkwerks on my current car tbh. But significantly better value for money for what is a fairly simple idea!If you want the ultimate bypass pipe though, this sounds amazing, is ridiculously light, and is a thing of beauty (have one of these also): https://www.jcr-developments.com/porsche/product/9...

I'd like to fit a Sharkwerks on my next car, however warranty issues preclude that unfortunately!
It won't invalidate your Porsche's warranty as under EU directive the car maker has to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the offending non OEM part caused or contributed to another totally unrelated mechanical failure, which is practically impossible. The only effect that a Sharkwerks will have on a Porsche is it will fail Porsche's 111 point check and by default will not allow an extended warranty to be added..
To give you an idea of what the GAD Race Engineering Titanium Exhaust sounds like this is a little drive by that I did the other day (Private Road)

They do sound very good though.

On my previous GT3, the supplying OPC would not fit the bypass pipe, my local OPC said they would but the car would be flagged on the Porsche system as having a non OEM exhaust, they said it probably would not be an issue but I didn't want the hassle of having a potential problem in the future as I'm unsure how long the 'flag' would be on the car's history.

Nor would my OPC fit JCR's Ti exhaust to my GT3..Some OPCs will fit them and some won't..They do sound very good though.
