Dog suddenly doesnt want me to take him walkies

We have a 3 year old Yorkie and up until around 2 weeks ago he never had an issue with me taking him for walks. Now when I go to the front door to take him he runs the other way but if the wife gets her coat on he goes berserk with excitement at her taking him out. Even when I do take him out he is constantly trying to turn for home. Its really weird.

Anyone else have this issue before or can give an insight into his problem?

Had a similar issue with our Pug, if I was in the house he would just not want to go on a walk without me being there too.

We just put it down to him preferring me as I did the vast majority of the walking with him, it was actually quite funny.

Get the lead and shout "walkies" together....let the dog associate walks with the lead and you two together. Add a treat or two on the way out...then add treat after a short time.

Feed him biscuits so he changes his mind about walkies with you then he'll slowly come round

I actually meant to mention he wont take a treat from me when we are out either but is fine when at home.

Give a treat to another dog you meet.....the change will be instant

That does sound a bit like fearful behaviour (the not wanting to take treats also).

Has something happened while on a walk with you that might have frightened him?

My Yorkie is like this sometimes. I'll struggle to get him out the door or a few yards down the road he stops dead in his tracks. I end up carrying him for a bit and then he's fine. He also prefers to stick to a certain route on his local walks.
