Looking for newish car with 2-3.0 petrol engine

Struggling to settle on one, currently driving a 3.0 diesel 300c, getting sub 25mpg.

What I’m looking for is something I can drive around without worrying to much (to an extent) of how much fuel I’m going through. I mean 35-40mpg should do me fine.

I’ve finally convinced myself I don’t need a diesel as I only do about 10k per year and hardly any motorway driving. But I do enjoy just going out for a drive on my own for an hour or so now and then.

My conundrum basically is this. Using an Audi A5 for example, would a 2.0 TFSI do me (would like a bit of decent power) or is the difference between that and an S5 (mpg) negligible? You can substitute bmw 430i/440i, Merc c200/c300 etc.

£15-20k area, would be financed so looking to pay around £300pm. Not bothered about anything being massively ‘fun’ to drive just a bit more throwable than my 300c mega barge!

That's a good budget now is you're looking for a 330i/C200/2.0T A5 etc I'd be looking in the direction of one of these hybrids:

Nice list! I’ve looked at the hybrids before but was put off about story’s of battery’s losing their efficiency on used models. Is any of that true?

My 12 year old 330i does 33mpg on my commute and in excess of 40mpg on a gentle motorway jaunt. So 'apparently' they do 30mpg.

I think it depends on the usage, on a long run my 2006 330i would do around 35 mpg. But overall it did around 26mpg(mine was an auto though and I believe the manual is better on fuel).

I could handle 30-35mpg for a 3.0, I’ve been looking at top end 2.0 litres (428i for example). But then some guy always pops up saying stuff like it’s only 4mpg difference etc, confusing!
