E250 cdi 2011 advice

Hi all,
I'm looking at a second car for about 15000 miles per year (many of those will be long runs >50 miles).
I'm looking at a few of these E Class at circa £6k with more than 100k miles on the clock from around 2009-11.
Has anyone any experience of they're as bullet proof as their reputation? I've ruled out the 350 - I know the 250 sounds agricultural but it will suit what I need.
Who actually buys these at this price/mileage?
Thoughts welcome please.

I have a 13 plate c220 CDI on 73k, from my research there doesn't appear to be anything chronic but I hear injectors mentioned on earlier ones.
Mine is twin turbo, it's little advertised. I believe the 250 always is whereas older 220s are single. It gives a nice even power band and drives well.

My 2011 E220CDi has done 312k miles with no major issues and is still running well.
The water pumps are known to fail, mine did at 220k miles and was just under £400 to replace but paid for by my Merc dealer.
The only other thing to do a bit of research on is the timing chain on the 250. I have heard of a few failures more so than with the 220 but negligible in relation to the numbers sold.
Check for a proper service history and for a transmission fluid change at 37.5k miles. Merc said that some gearboxes were sealed for life and didn't need changing but it is worth doing.
Other than that buy with confidence, there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of these being used for high mileage work all over the world.

had one for a couple of years and 40 odd thousand miles (from 30k miles) - nothing crippling in that time - had the controls on the steering wheel go (under warranty) and it went into limp mode once (which was sorted by a Merc specialist but did involve removing the front of the car)
Otherwise it was adequate and reliable, won't set your hair on fire but a good 'white goods' car - for £6k I'd go for it

Do they not need timing chain doing over >100k miles, is this a set service internal? I keep looking at the E350 which people seem to think are worth the extra money to buy and run, economy looks decent. How easy is it to avoid an ex taxi which has had milage correction?

I have had three go over 300k with no timing chain issues all serviced by Mercedes with no timing chain maintenance / replacements required.I was looking at Estate versions which can have issues with the air suspension I believe.
Here’s a 2012 one on 170k miles. Looks a lot more expensive than 6 grand.

You’ve probably seen it on AT.
I’d say they are a sensible buy to have for a good few more years. Anything bought for 6grand and having 15k a year put on it for a few years won’t be worth tons and you’ll want something that can cope.
I think you’re pretty wise tbh. A good Indy should keep you right too.
Like anything in this £ range you’ll need an initial fix fund, but it should be worth it.

Update: purchased a 2011 with 140k for 6k. Thanks for the replies - very helpful.
Opening thoughts:
Very tractory compared to our 530d. Loud at sub 20 mph and above 80mph. Fine in between that range
The auto dimming lights are very clever
Very comfy over an 80 mile opening drive
>50mpg
The drivers heated seat won't work - it goes off in seconds. Any thoughts?
Hopefully another 160k miles in the old thing!
