XBOX one S : Sound issue ?
Discussion
Setting up a XBOX for the first time ! Note its got the HDMI. and a Toslink optical .
I have a sony receiver and a Pioneer Plasma . All set up with nice 5.1 etc .MOST of the time . My son will use headphones etc.But should we want to get rid of the DVD player and just use the XBOX etc .we need sound ! The TV to Receiver uses the single Toslink optical. I thought it might be a case of removing the DVD and replacing it with the XBOX? Same mini kettle power and a HDMI etc .
But no sound ! Does the Xbox send out audio via the HDMI ? As otherwise I don’t see how it can all work :-( @!

I use my tv optical out to my receiver optical in, everything you see on the tv therefore plays on my surround system.
But you can certainly have Xbox sound running through hdmi, I used to run mine like that.
Check your TV and HDMI connections
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select Display & sound.
Select Video output.
Select TV connection.
If TV connection is set to "DVI," you'll need an optical audio cable for sound. If you're using an HDMI cable, switch your TV connection to "Auto-detect."
Note If your screen goes dark after you select HDMI or DVI and the screen doesn't reset after 30 seconds, see Troubleshooting a blank TV or monitor while your Xbox One is on.
Back out of Video output by pressing B .
Select Audio output.
Verify that HDMI audio is not set to “Off” (or dimmed).
