I’m 52

Have cocked up life fairly well, having had no instruction or example, but mostly due to my poor decisions (I’m not walking away from my choices). I was borne into entitlement - didn’t see

I can see that (when depressed) I circle back on ending it, it’s inevitable I think

Is that a bad thing?
There are far too many people, groups, societies, gatherings
One person will not me missed by more than a few (i know this having lost a daughter at 4)

I’m tired
I’m not asking you to convince me otherwise
Interested in your thoughts about when it’s all to hard/pointless

When does a person it no longer matter
Don’t lie and say never, we’ve all walked past a stranger and thought #fkme

52 is no age, there's plenty left to experience and try in life. Its a difficult time of year and these thoughts cross a lot of peoples minds, but knowing more than one person who's tried to end it all and failed, in the moment immediately after an attempt they completely regretted their actions. If they had succeeded it would have been too late.

Have you got anything to lose by seeking some help? Bit of time, possibly some humility. I don't know you but I wouldn't like to see one less Alfisti in the World, so there's one thing!

User name suggests you might be local? I’m only in Warrington so if you want to meet for a brew and a chat just say the word.

Eta, thought the M67 in your username was just outside Manchester but just noticed your profile references Australia. obviously I’m not going to get there quickly. Either way, take a step back and discuss things with someone - it might just help.

When does a person no longer matter to whom?

If you think people around you don't value you, then are they the sort of people you want have around you?

If you could wipe the slate clean (or cleanish) where would you be, and what would you be doing with yourself? Can you do any of that? I'm not saying you can run from your problems, because wherever you go, there you'll be smile, so consider what you can change for the better. Your better, not somebody else's.

If you end it all, the people around you now might not miss you much, but what about all the stuff that you will miss? You're here for your own benefit, not somebody else's.

It'll all be alright in the end. If it's not alright now, then it's not the end. Sounds like bks, I know; but it's my mantra. smile

Are you getting any help for despression? Depression can seriously impact your outlook and ability to deal with situations, often leading to a feeling that it just isn't worth it.

The problem is it is almost impossible to see how wrong you are when you are in that mind loop.

Changing your outlook is possible though. If you are truly unhappy with your situation, can't see any value in what you are doing or in being alive...then congratulations - you are free!

If it truly doesn't matter what you do, then use that to consider what you can do? Does it matter if it fails? No! you can't be worse off (than considering ending it). Do something completely different. Go somewhere different. Try something you've never done before. Go to an airport and book a flight anywere. Get in the car and drive around the UK. Sell everything and go travelling.

Life is short, and if you are thinking of making it shorter then see what else you can pack in first - who knows where it will end up.

One caveate...I'd also recommend getting some help - doctor/counselling etc.

I'll be brief - a close friend of mine who had suffered some terrible things tried to end her life about a year ago - she had a full breakdown and was suffering awful PTSD from some horrific things she had experienced in her life (not yet 30).

She failed. She wanted to die still but got help after her attempt (she was in hospital after).

Now she is engaged, moving house, new car bought and is the happiest ever.

We look back on this time last year and it is unbelievable - it's still a recovery period but you can't imagine the difference.

It is never too late to turn a corner, and the next day might seem very dark...but with help each day becomes slightly brighter until the dark days are far behind.

I wish you the best - people care.

ETA : The best thing I heard that described recovery and healing was 'it is like the tide going out - the waves come and go, but they get further away with each one'

I’m sorry to read you’re having a tough time right now. A very good friend of mine who has suffered from depression in the past is currently at a low point and while he may ‘only’ be one person, my life would be very different without him. Every time we talk, I know how much of a difference it makes for him. Having someone to talk to really does help.

This is a UK site but it’s worth having a read and if you don’t feel like you have anyone close to you that you can talk to, there are people that you can talk to anonymously. This may be worth a look.

Just remember there are other people out there who’ve been in your position before who’ve come out the other side who can offer support, advice and experiences, so don’t give up.

Are you important to the world... probably not
will anyone outside of your family or friends miss you... unlikely
however your world is not everyone in in it
it is the people who know you
It is the people you know
it can be the people you are still to get to know.

I've lost 5 good friends to suicide all under 35 ... Their problems were internalised and none of us knew their struggles. I don't believe any of them knew just how much they would be mourned and missed.

Everyone makes mistakes and no-one knows how to live for the best ... It's all trial and error and educated guessing.

But I'd you want an example of the ripples from a powerful online community where the members truly value each other have a look at the JAYBs final message and the subsequent very long tribute thread.

OP

Talk to a GP, a mate or the Samaritans ASAP

Whatever it is it will be OK even if you're in a very dark place tonight

Hell, even talk to Pistonheads smile

Men (I assume youre male) are rubbish at recognising when they need psychological help

I lost a friend to suicide a couple of years ago

If he'd have asked for help things may have been different

None of us had any idea

Good luck

Onwards and upwards

Cheers

I've been there, I tried to go through with it a couple of times but unsuccessfully.

3 years on and things are much better. With hindsight my thinking during that time wasn't right but boy does it feel "right" at the time to just give up.

As other have said just engage with whatever services are local to you, even if its just "I'm not okay"

I am seeing somebody (mental health plan)
