Megane RS 280 vs Leon Cupra 290

Which would you go for and why?

Both brand new on a personal lease. Both on the same terms (3 + 23 profiles and 8k miles PA).

The Renault would be flat white paint and manual gearbox at £265 PM. The Cupra is DSG, comes with free metallic paint and is £253 PM.

I can't seem to make my mind up...

Test driven both, Cupra has a better spec and better finish, megane slightly more fun and better noise. Worth noting meganes manual isn't the best, the DSG is pretty good.

Cupra is more car for the money but the megane is better looking.

6 and 2 threes, both decent. Note the megane have to be delivered before the end of the year and the cupra won't be seen until next tax year.

As above it depends on your priority's if it's interior then the Cupra edges it but as a fun hot hatch it swings back in the Meganes favour this is one only you can decide on.

The Cupra is a nice car, I likened it to a grown up Fiesta ST when I had mine. But it wasn’t out and out fun, and I suspect the Mégane will be

Who’s the megane deal with? Having had a Cupra that’s due up in Jan and although the interior in the new Cupra will be better, over a short term that wouldn’t bother me too much.

As a Cupra owner I would say go with the Megane, Cupra gets quite dull if you're now a die hard VAG lover IMO.

Did you enquire on the Megane deals then? I heard that from someone on here. I decided to ring them myself anyway and the guy I spoke to said early next year delivery shouldn’t be an issue but he’d speak to the funder to confirm. Something like the metallic colours are in stock now and ready to go but the free white won’t be in until the end of this month. I’ve still not heard back after chasing them twice so it might not even be a possibility!

I’ve actually already ordered the Cupra but I’m within the 14 day cooling off period, where I could cancel within that time and get my fee back. For those wanting to know, it was a deal through Leasing Options which has since expired. I think leaseloco and leasing.com have them on offer for about £260 pm on the same terms as above.

In terms of the cars, the Cupra is the better deal all-round and probably the maximum I want to pay. It’s just that I’ve always wanted a Renault Sport and cheap leases on them don’t come round too often. I think if the Megane was the EDC for the same price, I’d go for it 100%. I really like a nice automatic or dual-clutch gearbox with paddles and I’m not sure I really want to go back to a manual. The 280 is better looking and the standard exhaust noise is terrific, even with the GPF. Interiors really don’t bother me massively tbh.

I know the new Megane would be generally more special and fun to drive and I’ve heard it’s much more comfy now, but would it feel fun all of the time or does it need some proper backroads for it to come alive, like the previous model? Most of my driving is a small commute and then just driving for errands and for fun when I can. The Cupra is more suited to this but sometimes I do feel like breaking away from the VAG stuff, as I’ve found them all to be competent but just missing something. Then again, I don’t wanna feel frustrated with the Renault when doing the boring stuff. I do about 6-8k per year.

I’m probably overthinking and over complicating things as usual, I’m just working out if the premium is worth it for the Meg and I feel like I’m already stretching financially a little bit with the Leon. I’ll probably just stick to my current order but I appreciate all the comments and help.

Yes I enquired with Willow Leasing they were the cheapest as of a week ago. £311, no deposi,t 10k, any metallic (only one red left) which were built and heading over in the next few weeks. They said the longest they could hold was until the end of the year. Nice if you've managed to get someone to match with a factory order a I would probably want to spec the slightly larger screen.

Also check the excess mileage the LO deal is 15p which is over the odds but the megane was 8p if this matters to you.

I am in the exact same position between the two, I am trying to get a seat dealer to price match the leasing options (no renault dealer could get near the willow quote) as I'd rather not pay the fee and deal with the middle man.
